M.A.D.D. Rhythms
M.A.D.D. RHYTHMS is a hot, new tap dance phenomenon poised to sweep the nation. What started as the "brainchild" of Bril Barrett and was helped into reality by Martin Dumas III is now a full-fledged performing arts company, quickly gaining a reputation for bringing the noise and the funk.
M.A.D.D. RHYTHMS is composed of young, talented tappers from all over the city of Chicago. Their ages range from eight to thirty, and their backgrounds are as equally diverse. The one thing they all have in common is a love for "the dance".
M.A.D.D. RHYTHMS' mission is to preserve and promote tap dance as a percussive art, to emerge as a representation of the new generation of HOOFERS, proving that creativity has no limits. As role models, they will show their peers that perseverance, determination, positivity and passion are the key ingredients to achieving success.
M.A.D.D. RHYTHMS performance opportunities have included: Chicago's Next Dance Festival, Expo for Today's Black Woman, Kwanzaa Festival, and The African Festival of the Arts. They have also produced and performed in Percussive Dance: Connecting the Rhythms and are currently producing Breaks, Beats and Rhythms: A Positive Journey Through Hip-Hop. In an effort to continuously give back to their communities they have also volunteered performances for A.C.E.S. (Athletes Committed to Educating Students), and various community affiliated organizations.
M.A.D.D. RHYTHMS has already been invited to participate in Toronto's Fresh Fest, the Chicago Historical Society's summer performance series, the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, and DuSable Museum's educational theatre series. They are also the first tap group to ever receive an invitation to participate in Dance Africa.
